Pad-mount transformers
Tamper-resistant, ground-mounted transformers for underground distribution. Single and three phase, dead-front or live-front, loop or radial feed, sourced to your specification and delivered with full test data.
Power at ground level, locked and safe
A pad-mount transformer sits on a concrete pad inside a locked, tamper-resistant steel cabinet, with every energized part enclosed. That makes it the standard choice wherever cables run underground and the public can walk right past the equipment: campuses, military housing, hospitals, commercial buildings, solar sites and EV charging hubs.
GovCrest sources single-phase and three-phase pad-mounts in the configuration your utility or engineer specifies, confirms lead times with the factory before we quote, and delivers with the test reports, drawings and nameplate data your acceptance team will ask for.
Key features
- Tamper-resistant cabinet built to IEEE enclosure integrity requirements
- Dead-front elbows or live-front bushings
- Loop feed or radial feed primary configurations
- Bayonet fusing with current-limiting backup fuses
- Load-break switching and surge arresters as specified
- Mineral oil or less-flammable natural ester fluid
Typical specifications
The ranges we source most often. Other ratings, voltages and configurations are available on request.
| Phase | Single phase and three phase |
|---|---|
| Typical capacity | 25 kVA to 167 kVA single phase; 45 kVA to 5,000 kVA three phase, larger on request |
| Primary voltage | Up to the 35 kV class |
| Secondary voltage | 120/240 V, 208Y/120 V, 480Y/277 V and others as specified |
| Configuration | Loop or radial feed; dead-front or live-front |
| Insulating fluid | Mineral oil or natural ester (FR3 type) |
| Finish | Munsell green or gray; coastal and corrosion-resistant options |
| Efficiency | DOE 10 CFR Part 431 compliant |
Configured to the job
Every site is different. These are the options we specify most often.
Fusing and protection
Bay-o-net expulsion fuses, current-limiting backup fuses, internal protective links and surge arresters, coordinated to your protection study.
Switching
Two-position or four-position load-break switches for loop-feed systems, so a section can be isolated without an outage.
Coastal and harsh sites
Stainless steel cabinets, upgraded coating systems and enclosure integrity to the coastal requirements of IEEE C57.12.29.
Monitoring and accessories
Liquid level, temperature and pressure gauges, pressure relief devices, drain valves and sampling ports.

Common questions
Straight answers to what engineers and contracting officers ask us first.
- What is the difference between loop feed and radial feed?
- A radial-feed pad-mount is supplied from one direction and sits at the end of a line. A loop-feed unit has two sets of primary connections so power can arrive from either side, which lets the utility isolate a fault and restore service from the other direction.
- Dead-front or live-front?
- Dead-front units use insulated elbow connectors, so no energized metal is exposed when the cabinet is open. Live-front units expose the primary bushings. Most new underground systems specify dead-front for safety; we quote whichever your system requires.
- Can you match our utility’s specification?
- Yes. Send the utility or project specification and we source units built to it, including voltages, taps, fusing, fluid, finish and nameplate requirements.
- Do pad-mounts come with test reports?
- Every unit is factory tested, and we supply the test report with the delivery. Witness testing at the factory can be arranged on request.
