Distribution transformers

Pole-mount, liquid-filled and dry-type transformers that step medium voltage down to the service voltage buildings and equipment use, for overhead lines and indoor electrical rooms alike.

The last step before the load

Distribution transformers do the final voltage step between the distribution network and the equipment people actually use. Overhead, that means pole-mounted, liquid-filled units hanging on the line. Indoors, it means dry-type transformers in electrical rooms, feeding lighting, HVAC, controls and IT.

GovCrest supplies both, specified to the load, the site and the efficiency standard that applies, and packaged so the electrical contractor receives exactly what the drawings call for, with nameplates, test reports and submittals ready for review.

Key features

  • Pole-mount single-phase units for overhead distribution
  • Ventilated and cast-coil dry-type units for indoor rooms
  • Low-voltage general purpose and K-factor rated designs
  • Taps for voltage adjustment on the primary side
  • DOE efficiency compliance on every applicable unit
  • Submittal packages ready for engineer review

Configured to the job

Every site is different. These are the options we specify most often.

01

Overhead pole-mount

Conventional and self-protected units with bushings, lightning arresters and tank-mounted hardware for crossarm or pole mounting.

02

Ventilated dry-type

Air-cooled units for indoor rooms, with no liquid to contain and simple maintenance, from general purpose to medium voltage.

03

Cast-coil dry-type

Windings sealed in epoxy for damp, dusty or demanding environments where moisture and contamination are a concern.

04

K-factor and harmonic

Designs rated for the harmonic loads of IT equipment, variable speed drives and LED lighting.

Common questions

Straight answers to what engineers and contracting officers ask us first.

Liquid-filled or dry-type?
Liquid-filled units are compact, efficient and suited to outdoor installation. Dry-type units carry no liquid, which suits indoor rooms and sites where fire risk or containment is a concern. We quote to what your engineer has specified, and flag it if an alternative would ship sooner.
What is a K-factor transformer?
A K-factor rated transformer is built to handle the heating caused by harmonic currents from electronic loads such as computers, drives and LED lighting, without being oversized.
Do your transformers meet DOE efficiency rules?
Distribution transformers covered by DOE 10 CFR Part 431 are supplied compliant with the efficiency level in force, and the compliance is stated on the quote.
Can you supply to a contractor’s submittal schedule?
Yes. We provide cut sheets, drawings and test data for the submittal, and confirm the manufacturing slot once it is approved.
